Many teams compete in BUCS's Wednesday sport programme. This starts from October and runs until February. It is a good idea to have a look on the BUCS website and check out when and who you are playing. Click on www.bucs.org.uk click on fixtures and results, select Swansea from the list of Institutions (to view all results click 'Go' next to this list or) then find your chosen sport in either the League, Knockout or Championship list and select it to view the details. Or click HERE. On this page you can also see how well you are doing in your leagues.
Information for home games usually goes up on a Friday or a Monday, it will be posted both on the white boards in the A.U. office and online. Here you can find your start time and your opposition. If you are playing in Fairwood then please check what time your transport for your fixture is leaving. Make sure all of your team is on time for the game, because opposition can claim games if you are late! If you need referees make sure you sort them out early, this will save you a lot of hastle and stress trying to find one last minute. When you have a result for a fixture then text or ring it through to the A.U. President straight away as all results need to be entered on the BUCS website by Thursday midday. Failure to comply with this might mean results being entered incorrectly.
For away games your transport will be organised by the A.U. You will find your transport forms pinned up outside the A.U. office with all appropriate maps etc. Please make sure that all of your team members have their A.U. cards before getting on the bus. No one can play for the University without an A.U. card. It not only invalidates their insurance but all of the teams insurance. Make sure all members sign the trip registration form and that it is handed into the Porters at Fulton House before you leave. This is for our records should there be an accident.
As with home games make sure all of your team are there early so that you are not late for your fixtures. Other Universities can claim a walk over if you are not on time. Make sure you and your team behave on the bus on the way there and back! Failure to do so may result in suspension of transport for you and your club. If you have any problems make a note of the A.U. Presidents number so you can get hold of them. It is worth checking the BUCS website a day or so after your fixture just to check the opposition have entered the result in correctly, if spotted early this can easily be rectified.
It is very important you understand how playing under protest forms work. Firstly if you believe you have grounds for playing under protest then you must complete the form before the match starts. On the form state why you wish to play under protest and get the opposition's captain to sign it, they cannot refuse to sign the form. If for any reason you believe that it is dangerous to play then do not play the fixture. For example if conditions are too dangerous, or there are no qualified officials. If you are unsure then ring your A.U. President to ask for their advice.
Following the fixture if you still wish to go ahead with the protest then you must hand your form the A.U. President before 11am the day after the fixture. It is at the A.U. Presidents discretion whether the case goes any further and is sent to BUCS. If it is sent to BUCS you will be asked to give your side of the story and the opposition will have the opportunity to do the same. BUCS will come back to the A.U. President with a decision and that will be relayed to you. Do not at any time try and contact an institution on your own regarding a dispute. This is the job of your A.U. President and BUCS, any such actions may result in a disciplinary.
If you are sure about the BUCS rules then you are more likley to be able to argue your case to the opposition. For a full set of rules then pick up a BUCS hand book from the A.U. office (each BUCS club also as a copy, please check with your club captain) or download the online version from the BUCS website.
1) It is the responsibility of the HOME team to change if there is a clash of kit.
2) Duration of matches must be as long as laid down by NGB’s, however in exceptional circumstances matches can be shortened with written consent from both teams.
3) If a first team cannot get a team out they must take from the team below. So for example if the first team football couldn’t get a team out, the second team would have to go up and play for the 1st’s and the three’s would move up to the seconds ect, so therefore the lowest placed team would be the one to forfit their game. If you don’t adhere to this rule and the first team drop out and the second team plays then all teams will lose points.
4) It is the responsibility of the host institution to provide the correct conditions and time availability for a match. So if the pitch is waterlogged then the game will be postponed it because it’s a force majeure(basically it is no ones fault that the game has been called off).
5) All teams must play as if all of their teams are playing at the same time. If a first team does not have a fixture on a Wednesday afternoon it does not mean players from that team can drop down to the second team and play.
6) All away teams must finish their fixture in time to be able to get back to their institution before midnight, if they do not the away team will be able to claim transport costs.
7) If a team cancels a match on the day of the match (unless in the case of a force majeure) the away team can calim back costs, for example if a team rings you up on a Wednesday morning of a game you can claim for the cost of the bus hire because the bus company will charge you to hire the coach if you cancel on the day you want it.
8) Failure to attain correct officials could lead to the foretiture of the match and the deduction of three points. Unless written notice is given to the opposition and BUCS office two working days from the scheduled start time.
9) No team can play double headers i.e. one match that holds the reward of six points.
10) All fixtures must start on time, you will find some teams will be late because they get lost or were delayed. In these circumstances I usually inform my teams the opposition were going to be late and let them play. However if teams are really late then its worth getting the home team to play under protest.
11) Notification of fixtures, it is the responsibility of the home team to contact the visiting team in writing at least 48 hours prior to fixtures.
12) All members competiting for institutions must be eligible to compete, see eligibility section. It basically means they must be a student or a sabbatical officer.
13) Any playing under protest forms must be into BUCS no later than 11am the day after the dispute.
14) Certain sports can start their match before 1.00pm such as tennis and golf, however most sports must have a start time at or after 1.00pm.
