The national pool for swimming, life-saving and finswimming and the uni-gym for weight training
Do you have funding or a scholarship for playing your sport?
I don't currently recieve any funding. life-saving is a volunteer based sport, a lot of the funding for the sport comes from charities and fundraising. I have a scholarship with Swansea university, which is really helpful and a gold card from the local council which gives me free active membership which allows me free access to many gyms and swimming pools throughout Swansea.
What is your highest achievement in sport?
Gaining top 10 placings in every individual event, 4th place being the highest, gaining the highest number of individual points out of all 12 team members and winning a gold medal in a team event in the European junior lifesaving championships in Rome 2006.
Why did you choose to come to Swansea?
I've lived in Swansea all my life. It's a brilliant city. It's got that city vibe, but at the same time it's small enough to have a friendly local feel about it. Although I love very close to the uni, I've chosen to live in halls to get the university experience and since I started uni, i've seen a different side to Swansea that i had never seen before.
What makes Swansea a good place to train/practice?
The sporting facilities are fantastic and the complex seems to be growing all the time. Having a 50m pool so close to the University is definitly a plus.
What is your ambition for the future?
At the beginning of every racing season I set myself times that I want to achieve. My goal at the moment is to be selected for the GB senior team to compete at the World championships in Germany 2007
What support do you get from the university to combine study and training?
My home departments have been more than helpful when combining study and training. If I have any prorblems with training or competitions clashing with university, then they look at different ways to solve the problem.
Which sporting figures do you most admire?
I know many people say this, but it's got to be Lance Armstrong. For someone to beat cancer and then go on to win seven consecutive tour de france titles is amazing. Everyone goes through tough experiences in their lives and he shows that if you really want something, you can defy all odds and achieve it.
